Micromachining technology has developed to a mature technology with an increased number of products available on the market. As a result different types of manufacturing processes have been developed for volume production. By designing new microsystems for existing manufacturing processes the development cost to put new components on the market can be significantly reduced.
NORMIC, the Nordic Manufacturing Cluster, offers among its services a Multi Project Wafer (MPW) process, run at SensoNor. This service is ideal for prototyping or small scale production and gives a clear roadmap to volume production. In order to reduce the threshold to start designing for the NORMIC MPW process this introduction course is given.
By the end of the course the participants will be familiar with the NORMIC MPW process. Guidelines for designers, information on design tools and handling routines will be given. The lecturers are deeply involved in the MPW processing and design and the participants are encouraged to take an active part and ask many questions to get as much value out of the course as possible.
Introduction: Why MPW? What can you do? What do you get? MPW as part of product chain.
· MPW Process Description: Process sequence overview, Key features, Absolute limitations, Process monitors, Test data.
· Design: Design limitations, Layout rules, Templates (chip-level), Compulsory lay-out features.
· Design Tools: Bulk etch calculator and simulation, Technology files and DRC, Library elements.
· MPW step-by-step: Booking/Site purchase, Design submission, Design check/DRC-redesign/corrections, Mask assembly, Processing schedule, Final control, Packing and shipment
The course is open for engineers, researchers and students from companies, institutes and universities interested in using the NORMIC MPW service. To participate in the course it is necessary to hold a current NDA with NORMIC. For those that do not have a NDA, please contact ACREO. The NORMIC MPW design handbook is sent to those who sign a NDA.
The course has been developed within NORMIC (SensoNor asa, Norway, ACREO AB, Sweden, SINTEF, Norway, and DELTA, Denmark). The lecturers come from ACREO and SensoNor.
