Course Description
| Manufacturing Processes for Micromechanical Components |
Date: from 9 Nov 2000 to 10 Nov 2000 2 day(s)
English Villingen, Germany
613,00 EURO 30% for Academic members
The course will provide the attendees with a systematic overview of the various manufacturing methods for micromechanical components and their characteristics. A systematic method is presented to facilitate the selection of a manufacturing process for micromechanical components defined with a requirement list. By the end of the course, the attendees will be able to select the adequate process for a specific component, with regard to the technical feasibility as well as to economical aspects.
· Relevant characteristics of micromechanical components.
· Component requirement list.
· Relevant characteristics of fabrication processes :
· range of materials, variety of forms and structures that can be obtained, aspect ratio,
range of dimensions, readiness for mass production, availability, industrial uses, through
put-cost ratio in mass production, investment costs, combination
possibilities with other processes.
· Systematic overview of fabrication processes : silicon micromachining, thin film technique,
high aspect ratio etching, LIGA, micro-injection molding, laser-induced processes and
mechanical micromachining, photostructuring of glass and
glass-ceramics, µ-EDM, stereolithography and other rapid prototyping methods, wafer bonding,
etc.
· Systematic selection of fabrication processes for producing micromechanical components
defined with the component requirement list.
· Case studies.
R & D managers and engineers, business development managers, researchers and a wide range of
R & D staff from companies and institutes involved in the development and production of
microdevices.
A course developed by the Institute for Precision Engineering, Technical University Vienna (A) and Institute of Technical Physics, University of Kassel (D).
Tutors : Dr. G. Popovic or Prof. Dr. H. Detter and Dr. Ing. habil. I. W. Rangelow.
